Hi Uniques,
Oh I look so bad today. I am pale and then I also got a bad hair day …
To speak badly about yourself only to make others convince yourself of the opposite? Nothing easier than that. We all do it constantly, every day and sometimes quite unconsciously.
Fishing for compliments often annoys others. Especially as a blogger you get to hear from time to time that you actually only run the blog to get compliments.
Why are you fishing for compliments?!?
Often we are annoyed by persons with the strategy of fishing for compliments, again and again to be convinced of the contrary. Often understanding is simply missing, for these usually really “normal” or even very pretty people. We ask ourselves, why is she moaning? I had at least as much reasons to whine!
We condemn others who simply show something more obvious that they need confirmation and compliments, but who does not need that? Who doesn’t want to be confirmed in what he does?
Fishing for compliments is a sign of a lower self-esteem. By being angry or annoyed, the affected person becomes even more doubtful.
Why we should make more compliments.
When I meet friends, go to college or simply go out in the city – I notice one thing. Compliments are scarce goods.
Small niceties are really important. They awaken not only sympathy, but make both the one who is making the compliment as well as the one who receives it quite happy. I think it’s great when someone is really happy about a small compliment. Even easier and faster one can’t probably sweeten anyone’s day.
Of course you can also just give strangers some joy. What is the point?
Silence is not an answer.
Because we only get few compliments, many cannot deal with it, if one actually comes. Often, only embarrassing silence or a awkward thank you follows. But how do you actually accept a compliment?
A short thank you is the step in the right direction. However, we should not just be thankful for a compliment but also of proud. Your joy, which a compliment gives to you, should be expressed openly. Try it with: “Oh, I am very happy about this! Thank you! ” This reflects your good feeling back to the other person and motivates to make more compliments.
A wonderful concept
During all of the Press Days in October, one press day has been a special memory. At Parade Germany we were immediately welcomed extremely nice and invited to an “I like you” party. Since this was to take place the next day, I unfortunately could not participate so spontaneously. Nevertheless, I was absolutely enthusiastic about this concept. It was about the fact that we write under good instagram pictures, how great we find them every day. All invited guests should compliment each other, the guest who had received the most compliments won a prize. A great idea, right?
Compliments do not hurt anybody, they do not cost us much time and do so much.
So bring others a smile and say if you like something instead of just thinking it!
Make a compliment!
