Hi Uniques,
I am blond, I have blue eyes, I like fashion, make-up, look very much at my appearance and I am a fashion blogger. Many would now say “Fits good, she is just a little Barbie”
But then it goes on with the associations. Probably she is also a naive and maybe ignorant. Nevertheless she is quite sweet. The nice blonde from next door.
We are all the same and yet so different
Theoretically, we should all always be the same, man and woman have equal chances in the job, hair, skin colour, religion and origin have no influence on our opinion. Names do not affect us, of course, any more. Yes you have read it correctly – theoretically it should be this way.
Practically it is not quite so simple, because beside the blond stereotype there is the probably most discussed cliché of the name.
At least since Fack ju Göte all know that Chantal is not exactly the smartest and so the dear Kevin finally gets a female antipode.
Joking aside 😀
My name is … Marylin?
When I say I study dual, the look I usually get at the first moment, is a bit staggered. Then follows an astonishing “realy?!?” But why is that so?
Now honestly: If there would be any prove that blondes are more stupid than others there would certainly be a scientific proof for this. But it is not! Nevertheless, the stereotype persists and is fired further by various films, stars and blondes jokes.
But where does this stubborn stereotype come from? The naive and slightly stupid blond image was mainly characterized by one – Marylin Monroe. She had actually brown hair, but colored it blond as soon as she got more famous. Since then, blondes have preserved their image.
Blonde blogger
Now I put another one on top – blond and blogger? More clichés are not possible! When I introduce myself as a blogger most people smile at me and think sure, that’s her.
Well as a blond blogger the stereotype is then probably perfect. I like fashion, I make photos, I write blog articles. There is nothing to it? You do not have to know much, do you? Not correct! Blogging is anything but simple, just writing and translating the blogposts requires a certain intelligence. In addition to the writing, you also have to be familiar with photography and SEO – both a science in itself;)
Here you can find how I unite university and the blogging.
Caution!
Anyone who underestimates his counterparts could quickly tap into the trap of prejudice.
Since I know that I am often underestimated as a blonde, I turn the tables on and use the image. So one or the other is rather surprised, when he realizes that all the theories just do not fit;)
Are there stereotypes that concern you? How do you deal with it? Can you just laugh about them like me?
