It’s almost exactly a year ago. This one big day. This day, which is not just a farewell, but also a new beginning. The day when you feel like a princess and when you are having your first big dance. What day? It is the day you’re having your Prom.
It is a farewell with a laughing and a weeping eye, and when you hear the last the tones of the last song at the end of the evening, you cling to these last moments, absorb everything and look back one last time. A moment after the other appears in front of your inner eye and you see yourself. You see how you sit in front of a blank sheet with sweating hands while the clock ticks softly. You see how you stand at the blackboard and you look around desperately. You see how you walk hand in hand laughing with your best friend through the hallways of this building.
And finally you see how you are walking straight to the stage to pick up your graduation certificate. You hear the music, the applause and the voice of the director once again. And then? Then you’re back at once. In the middle of your bouning and dancing friends, back on your Prom.
There is hardly a day in the life of a student who is as emotional as the testimony and the Prom. Okay, clearly there are some emotional moments in 12 years of school, there are many ups and downs, but in the end there is only one thing that matters – you did it! That’s why everything should be perfect, for this one big day, for these last hours.
My Prom
My Prom is now a year ago and I can still remember pretty well, what an effort we have operated. A Prom committee with various subgroups for the decoration, the catering, the design of the tickets, the planning of the evening program and even a Facebook group for all dresses, so that nobody wears the same dress – you say that is crazy? Yes, it may be, but thanks to all the movies on TV or cinema, the pressure to meet the expectations of all the students is somehow quite big.
What a hassle for a day, no, actually only for a few hours! All these weeks, yes, even monthly work alongside the learning stress for the examinations.
As I write this, I realize how absurd all the trouble is, and yet I would not want to miss anything.
But the whole effort is worthwhile for this result. The last hours we spend together are very special. People with whom you have hardly spoken before turn out to be really nice and long friendships will feel even more intensive.
When everything is planned, there is really nothing left to do but find the right dress for you. Your prom can be perfect but the a dress, that is constantly slipping, in which you sweat totally or in which you just feel uncomfortable, can totally spoil your evening.
I loved my dress, I loved to feel like a princess, and I loved all the preparations.
For the Prom belongs to me not only the evening itself. This includes the selection of the dress, the trial of hairstyles and, of course, the right guidance.
The perfect Prom dress
For many, finding this one perfect dress is tedious and stressful. After all, you’ve seen in all the movies how an amazing Prom dress looks. The dress must be perfect, because finally you want to be graduation queen. Right? Wrong! Sure you want to look great on your Prom, but everything that is shown in american movies is a bit different in Germany. 😉
The most important thing is, as I said above, that you feel good. Because your dress can be the most beautiful one you’ve ever seen, if you just do not feel good with it, it’s worng. You do not like long dresses? Then wear a short. You prefer an airy and wide one? Then choose no sheath dress 😉
So relax, get together with your mum and enjoy the shopping trip with her.
The 3 steps to your Prom dress
In general, there are three large clothing groups. Of course there are no limits within the groups. Prom dress is a very stretchy term and in principle it does not even have to be a dress. It’s all about dressing appropriately and feeling great.
The ball gown
Yes, we all know these fantastic prom dresses from the American movies, but here in Germany you can often seem overdressed this way. Widening tulle skirts, glitter without end, and perhaps even a train, are just too much. Such a dress you should rather spare for your wedding. 😉
The cocktail dress
Short dresses fit on many occasions and if you decide for a short dress you will probably have more opportunities to wear it. Cocktail dresses are elegant and classic. But they still look fresh, cheeky and young. Just like a high school graduate is;)
In addition, most of the proms take place in summer. In my long dress – although it was really beautiful – I sweated a lot: D
If I could decide again, yes I think I would wear a short dress, just like this one from Orsay.
The important thing here is that the dress is not too short. This makes the dress look elegant and perfect for your prom.

The evening dress
There are quite a few cuts and according to your preferences, figure and size, there is also just the right dress for you. The most fluent fabrics flatter your body and provide for the princess feeling. Important is the length. My dress was at that time a bit too long and so I unfortunately stepped on it and so ripped the seam a bit. Quite as perfect as shown in the movies is a long dress not at all;)
Even if it looks awesome, it’s pretty hot and somehow unpractical 😀
The Prom clothes choice
The choice of clothes is almost as emotional as the Prom itself, and from anger to joyous tears, everything can be represented.
Therefore, the first problem in dress shopping is probably the choice of the store. Depending on the cuts you like, there are different shops to choose from. I would choose a store which has many different cuts and dress variations, such as, Orsay. Especially if your not sure what you want.
But not only the store is important, but also the saleswoman plays an important role. The better she advises you, the safer you feel.
Find a shop you like!
Maybe you’re lucky and you’ll find the right dress right away, but maybe you’ll have to try on a lot of others and it takes time. The more clothes you will try, the more nervous and tense you will be.
But then the saleswoman comes with a dress around the corner quite unexpected. You would never have chosen this dress. Since you are annoyed anyway, you can give it a try. It fits perfectly. And when you step out of the cabin, your mama looks at you with big eyes. Very secretly, she wipes a small tear from the corner of her eye. When you finally see yourself, a smile spreads over your face – this dress is perfect. It is so different from what you have imagined and yet so much better.
The right shopping guide is just as important as the right advice and the right shop. At Orsay you already have a good shop and a nice saleswoman, then just your shopping guide is missing and off you go
