Hi Unique,
the temperatures climb slowly, the thermometer rises, the open air swimming pools are crowded and the first scoops of ice are licked.
Oh, it could all be so wonderful if, yes if not all the other people were there. While you lie relaxed on your sun lounger by the pool, you see a lot of people passing by. Slowly, however, you ask yourself why everybody here has such a great bikini body. Okay, the one or the other is a bit thicker, but the majority looks just great. You look at yourself and you see that your bikini is a little tight. In the next moment a pretty blonde strolls past you – tall, beautiful, slim: model size. The longer you lie on your sun lounger, the more uncomfortable all your naked skin becomes. Quickly you turn on your stomach. When you turn around, you see your not perfectly manicured feet and your cheesey legs. Gee! The unpleasant feeling slowly increases, so you get up, grab your things and go. Luckily, a fat woman with cellulite crosses your way, and you may think, “Better than her, I look anyway, at least she goes swimming, but she should wear a bathing suit instead of the bikini.”
When you get home, you look in the mirror, test out how it would be if your legs were slimmer, lift your butt and push your breasts. When everything returns to reality, you are sighing and turn away from the mirror.
Self-doubt thanks to Photoshop, Lightroom & Co.
All these perfect girls and women we see every day on our Instagram feed affect us. As beautiful as we may find them, we often feel bad for ourselves afterwards.
Since every day we are confronted with images of perfect girls on various social media channels, it is difficult not to compare with them. Sure, we all know that thanks to Photoshop so much is improved and beautified, and yet always remains subliminal the comparison at the back of one’s mind.
If you then occasionally get flashed a funny glance or perhaps even a stupid comment – well, then it is often difficult to like oneself, as you are, without any self-doubt.
Everybody of us doesn’t like this or that about himself. Every woman has her problem zones even if she looks so perfect in your eyes.
I’m not talking about this, but from a more extreme form. To be self-critical is okay, but just like FOMO, this is only to a certain extent.
What is bodyshaming?
Too fat, too thin, too big, too small – something is always wrong. Not just with other women, no, especially with ourselves.
Bodyshaming means “shaming someone for their body type”. So bodyshaming starts already at the moment, when you think about the fact that the woman at the supermarket could ue some work out or should at least dress a bit more advantageous. And it stops when you are alone in your room, standing naked in front of the mirror and lifting your breasts, and suck in your belly.
Self-daubt is gnawing at us – over and over again, and often we try to compensate this self-doubt, by bitching about others.
About Tigh Gaps and Hip Dips
Every year there are not only new fashion and beauty trends, but also new body trends. What figure is in vogue this summer? Are there still the Tigh Gaps, which is the gap between the thighs with closed legs? Or are it rather the Hip Dips, that are the very natural “dents” in the curves of the hip, right on the hip bones.
It is absurd to follow up body trends with your own body. As soon as you have reached the trend goal, there are new, “better” things to achieve. A lot of things you can not influence and no matter how much you practice, you can not determine in which places you will lose as much.
Who is thinking of such trends at all and what is so great about it? Who tells me that next year it is not totally in vogue to have muffintops?
You see, if you really get aware of the whole thing, it will become a little ridiculous. This is exactly the first step in the right direction.
Somebody is always much prettier
Who is too fat, eats too much, runs constantly to McDonalds and has never seen a fitness studio from within. Who is too thin, hungers all the time, goes puking constantly and is addicted to sports.
Yes, that’s what we all think – right? No one would ever say it out loud, but in the end, the thought is enough.
Just because someone is a bit fuller or slimmer is not necessarily due to eating and sports habits. But what is even more important is that slim people are not necessarily happier. This is communicated to us daily on television, on social media and in magazines, but to be slim is not for everyone the ultimate happiness.
The most important thing is that you are satisfied with yourself and your body. You hate the gym? Then do not go 6 times a week, just to chase perfection. You love ice cream? Then eat it 😉
Love yourself, because you are unique the way you are!
